FFO (Film Facilitation Office)

FFO Logo

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, set up the Film Facilitation Office (FFO) in the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) with a view to promote India as a filming destination and facilitate according permissions for shooting in India by foreign filmmakers. The services rendered by the FFO are now extended to Indian filmmakers as well.

The FFO therefore acts as a single-window facilitation and clearance mechanism that eases and simplifies filming in India, while endeavoring to create a film-friendly ecosystem nationwide. The institution of the Most Film Friendly State Award, which was won by the State of Gujarat for 2015 and the State of Uttar Pradesh for 2016, is a unique initiative in this direction as it encourages the various State Governments to be more proactive towards easing filming in their respective jurisdictions.
Proposals regarding shooting of feature films, TV / Web shows & series and TV / Web Reality shows & series are handled by the FFO on behalf of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, which processes the request and takes a decision within a specific time frame. However, permissions for shooting in restricted areas take longer due to security reasons. Once the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting approves a project proposal, Indian Missions abroad grant Film Visa [F] to the project team.

Leveraging this country's diversity becomes imperative while achieving creative collaborations on a global scale. It is more so when it comes to collating and managing filmic resources on ground, available within the country. This is where a structured body like the Film Facilitation Office (FFO) comes in. Headquartered in New Delhi, the FFO has four regional offices, located at Delhi (co-located with Head office), Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. It is now a member of the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), with a view to promote India as a shooting destination at a global level.
