An orphan, Beena, migrates to Bombay, only to have her idle husband desert her. She becomes the breadwinner of her in-laws' family. When she falls in love with a man, the members of her family change their attitude as they grow selfish and feel that they would be losing their sustenance. Once her missing husband returns though, they don't sympathize with Beena any longer. Instead, they treat her as a whore.
